How to Speak Chinese Well

Everyone knows that language is a tool for communication, being able to speak Chinese properly is an extremely important part of mastering the language. So how to learn to speak Chinese well? Chinese Pinyin is the first significant step to start with. Pinyin is a way to express the sounds and represent Chinese characters in the Chinese language by using the alphabet, which means Chinese Pinyin is a Roman-letter based system that Chinese people now uses to mark the pronunciation of their characters. You must learn Chinese alphabet and keep in mind of it before you start to learn Chinese Pinyin. Meanwhile, here are some useful tips for you when learning Chinese Pinyin:

Although Pinyin and English both use the Roman alphabet, Pinyin does not represent English pronunciation and should not be pronounced according to English conventions. You should bear in mind that many sounds have no equivalents in English.

Due to Pinyin is based only on the sounds of Mandarin Chinese, Pinyin is not suitable for use of some other Chinese spoken dialects, such as Cantonese, for the sounds do not correspond to their speech.

Pinyin can be ambiguous in that the phonotactics of spoken Mandarin Chinese dictate a relatively small set of possible syllables and there is a potential for homonyms.

To speak Chinese language fluently, you are advised to master Chinese tones. There are four basic tones in Chinese that are used to distinguish words from each other. It may be difficult for foreigners to master the tone of each character, but correct tonal pronunciation is essential for intelligibility because of the numerous words in the language that only differ by tone.

As shown in the graph below, the first tone is a steady, high pitch. The second tone starts at a middle pitch, then rises over time. The third starts at a middle pitch, drops, then rises quickly. The fourth tone starts high, then drops rapidly.
